PT Month 2018: Thoughts on Physical Therapy (Part 2, Alyssa)

Continuing with our Physical Therapy Month quotes, today’s words are from Alyssa Stuart, PT, DPT.

What does it mean for you to be a physical therapist?

A physical therapist helps to improve functional limitations for many different conditions and can treat in a wide variety of medical settings. A physical therapist to me must be caring and compassionate. We have the benefit of seeing most patients several times a week and the ability to create a trusting relationship with our patients is so important for the success of their care. No patient or injury is the same and a physical therapist must be creative to develop a treatment plan appropriate for each person and optimize their success.

What is your favorite part about your job?

The best part of my job are my patients! I strive to develop a trusting relationship with my patients and I get to hear about their families, jobs, and lives along the way. I learn from my patients every day and this helps me customize their treatments to help reach their personal goals. No day is the same and I love learning new approaches to add to my PT “tool box”. I feel lucky to get to know my patients so well and to help them return to the activities they enjoy.
